There was plenty of food for thought and for breakfast as faculty and staff gathered on Monday, May 7 to celebrate Durham College's strategic plan.

What better way to start off a Monday morning at work than with pancakes, bacon, fruit salad and coffee? That's just what Durham College faculty and staff did on Monday, May 7 as they celebrated the launch of the five-year Success Matters Strategic Plan with President Leah Myers.

The breakfast ran from 8:30 to 10 a.m. in the Marketplace Cafeteria and allowed faculty and staff to interact with one another and pick up some valuable information on the plan.

Establishing goals that will guide the college through to 2012, the new Success Matters Strategic Plan emphasizes the college's mission statement - the student experience comes first at Durham College.

In addition, it includes the college's vision to be the premier college in Canada for career-focused students who will succeed in a challenging, supportive and inclusive learning environment with programs that are continually shaped by market needs and delivered by exceptional teachers with real-world experience. It also supports a vibrant campus community that enriches the student life experience. All of this combines to ensure graduates have the market-ready skills to succeed in their careers and make a difference in the world.

The college's new values statement will drive organizational culture and behaviour in delivering the college's vision and mission. The college's values are integrity and transparency; respect; equality and diversity; innovation; and personal and team accountability.

The plan's goals consist of providing students with quality learning experiences and support in finding pathways to good jobs and productive citizenship; supporting and empowering each employee to make the best possible contribution to achieving the college's mission; and making business decisions that are evidence-based, reflect best practices and result in the college being prosperous and achieving its mission.
