The first phase of the long-anticipated state-of-the-art Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre expansion at Durham College opened for students, staff, faculty and the public on Thursday, June 28.

It's now easier than ever to get into shape - just a short walk from your office or classroom is the new Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre expansion - now open for business.

The first phase of the long-anticipated expansion officially opened for Durham College students, staff and faculty, as well as the public, on Thursday, June 28 and the Department of Athletics is encouraging everyone to make use of the main galleria, control centre, fitness zone, FLEX Fitness Centre, free towel service, day lockers and public and staff change rooms which include full amenities and a sauna.

The second phase of the expansion, scheduled to open on Monday, July 16, and the third phase, which is set to open shortly thereafter, will see a Health Centre, triple gymnasium and 200-metre indoor track all open. The overall expansion also includes an aerobic studio, training rooms, a boardroom and a VIP lounge.

As part of the grand opening, all participants who attended a Fitness Centre orientation were eligible to enter a draw to win a free one-year gold staff membership and also received a card for 10 free visits (valid for staff, faculty, students and the public) to use until Wednesday, August 15 when memberships become available for purchase. Gold and silver membership options will be available.

Student membership fees are included in student fees with student ID cards acting as gym membership cards. A new card swipe system will be up and running on August 15.

The expansion is a beautiful addition to the campus' already impressive athletic facilities, which include two gymnasiums; a fitness centre; squash courts; a softball field; the Campus Tennis Centre with six Har-Tru clay courts; a soccer field; and the Campus Ice Centre.
