Whether students are entering their first year, halfway through their studies or a new graduate, there are a number of resources available on campus to help them gain experience and earn money using the skills they've gained through their Durham College education.

For example, the Hired Career Services web portal points students and graduates in the right direction when it comes to job-hunting and currently lists a number of upcoming events to assist students with their search for employment.

"It's important for students and graduates to attend job and career fairs because they provide the opportunity to explore different avenues, consider further education and plan for long-term career development," said Linda Campbell, an employment advisor with Hired Career Services.

On Friday, September 7, the department will host a part-time job fair from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the south wing of the Gordon Willey building, for students looking to make some extra income during the school year. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about part-time employment.

Thursday, October 18, will see the Career and Education Fair take place in campus. The event gives full-time students and graduates a chance to explore opportunities for summer jobs, co-ops, internships and future employment, as well as speak to representatives from graduate schools for individuals who are considering furthering their education. Attendees can network and make real contacts to assist them in their search for employment. This fair differs from the Job Fair held annually in the spring, as it is geared toward students and graduates, as opposed to the spring job fair, which is targeted at graduating students.

Hired Career Services offers career advising, resume reviews, job counselling and more to ensure candidates are well-prepared to make a good impression when speaking to potential employers. It also promotes external job fairs including time, location and employer information.
