Employers accepted cover letters, resumes and applications during the Durham College Part-time Job Fair held Friday, September 7.
With the return of students to campus for the new academic year, employers are beginning their searches for competent, reliable employees for part-time and seasonal work.
On Friday, September 7, Hired Career Services hosted the Durham College Part-time Job Fair in the East Atrium of the Science building. Students took advantage of the opportunity to meet with leading employers in the hopes of finding a job to earn some money over the course of the school year.
"The employers were pleased with the turnout. It was a very well-attended fair," said Mary Noble, employment advisor for Hired Career Services. "We gauge our success on the employers' success and the fact that so many students showed an interest in part-time employment at the fair is a testament to the benefits that come from offering them this opportunity."
Noble added that students were impressed by the broad cross-section of opportunities and employers said they received applications from many suitable candidates.
"The event is a great opportunity to hire talented people in the community," said Steve Coffin, operations manager for Future Shop.
Other employers present at the fair included Bunny's Catering, Community Living Oshawa/Clarington, Little Caesars Pizza, Vector, Tim Hortons, The Hudson's Bay Company, Fastenal, Canada's Wonderland, the City of Oshawa Recreation and Culture Services department, Myron, Rona, Your Student Association, Chartwells and Sodexho. Representatives accepted applications, resumes and cover letters, and discussed the job requirements, duties, culture, environment, hours and skills expected from potential employees.
Students can mark their calendars for the Career and Education Fair, which will take place on Thursday, October 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Details will become available as the date approaches.
