Approximately 1,000 students attended Hired Career Services' second annual Career and Education Fair on October 18, in an effort to plan for their professional and post-secondary futures.

Held in the original double gymnasium at the Durham College Oshawa campus, employers, professional associations and educational institutions were on site to answer questions, accept resumes and provide information about their respective organizations. Faculty and staff were also invited to make connections with industry recruiters.

"There are many reasons students should attend the Career and Education Fair," said Linda Campbell, an employment advisor for Hired Career Services. "It allows them to explore their career options, learn about valuable opportunities with employers and other professional associations and build networks. Students are able to think about where their courses will take them and make connections with employers that may lead to summer jobs or internships."

Educational institutions included Durham, Centennial, Humber and Seneca colleges; the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT); the Toronto Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology; Trent University; and the University of Toronto. Students had the opportunity to explore careers at places ranging from ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc., to TD Meloche Monnex Group, Ontario Power Generation and more - in all, there were 60 organizations registered.

In addition to hosting career, job and education fairs through the academic year, Hired Career Services enables students to search for internship and co-op opportunities; sign up for a Job Watch system; book career-advising appointments; register for employer recruitment and information sessions; and create an online resume and portfolio for employers to access.

Employers can advertise jobs, internship and co-op opportunities; register for on-campus job and career fairs; book on-campus information and recruitment sessions; search a student and graduate resume bank; and schedule on-campus interviews.
