Durham College President Leah Myers, right, and Lillian Jacoby, president of the Alumni Association, helped unveil Durham College's stunning new Alumni Wall of Distinction. The wall pays tribute to the 56 outstanding graduates who've earned the college's Alumnus of Distinction Award since 1990.
The Durham College Alumni Association paid tribute to a group of outstanding alumni on October 23 with the unveiling of an Alumni Wall of Distinction. Dozens of the honoured alumni were back at the college for the unveiling, with Leah Myers, president of Durham College, and Lillian Jacoby, president of the Alumni Association, among those paying tribute to the amazing individuals.
The wall serves as a permanent display of photos and biographies of the outstanding men and women who have earned Durham College's prestigious Alumnus of Distinction Award. The award is presented annually at convocation and recognizes graduates who have achieved tremendous success in their careers and made a significant commitment to their communities. Since the award's inception in 1990, there have been 56 recipients.
"The Wall of Distinction - your Wall of Distinction - is amazing. I am proud to be an alumna of Durham College and to be president of the Alumni Association," said Jacoby. "I know you all share that pride too and please know that your wall be the source of inspiration for students here today and for many years to come. Congratulations and thank you for joining us tonight to celebrate your accomplishments."
Durham College's three Premier's Award winners, who are selected from across the province, have their own special place of recognition across from the wall.
"The Alumni Wall of Distinction is a direct reflection of the calibre of Durham College graduates," said Lori Connor, an alumni officer. "These men and women have gone on to great success since departing the college and tonight we are able to celebrate those accomplishments and achievements. Durham College is proud to recognize these men and women as alumni."
The Wall of Distinction ceremony is part of Durham College's 40th-anniversary celebrations, which are continuing throughout the 2007-2008 academic year and closing with Homecoming Weekend on May 2 to 4. The Alumni Association supports the goals of the college and represents the needs and views of Durham College alumni, a group 42,000 strong.
