Amy England, the new Your Student Association president, begins her term May 1, 2008.

Before being elected as the new Your Student Association (Your SA) president, Amy England could be seen at a Durham College event scribbling notes or chasing after a politician for insight on student issues. Given the results of the Your SA voting that wrapped up February 8, England's role will soon shift from reporting issues to making changes.

England, who finished ahead of challenger Mallory Ryan by 190 student votes, is looking forward to her term, which runs from May 1 to April 30, 2009.

"It's not too often a person in her 20s gets a chance to be the CEO of an organization responsible for three institutions," said England, who will represent students from UOIT, Durham College and Trent in Oshawa.

Your SA provides a variety of services, events and advocacy for student rights, playing a significant role in Durham College's reputation for offering an outstanding student life experience.

As a second-year Journalism student, England has been reporting on the recent off-campus student housing bylaw. She will carry this experience with her into her term as president and also plans to increase club funding and create a better way for club executives to communicate with each other and collaborate with charity events.

"I am excited to get started," said England. "I have a strong team and each member brings something different to the table."

Others acclaimed or voted into office were Gibril Sallah, vice-president, Internal; Chris Nelan, vice-president, Campus Life; Christa Andrews, vice-president, UOIT; Valerie Naylor, vice-president, Trent; Greg Snow, vice-president, Durham College; and Eric Dillane as the UOIT Board of Governors representative.
