More than 1,000 students were on the hunt for employment at Durham College's 11th Annual Job Fair on February 13.

Durham College's Hired Career Services hosted the fair to help students gain full-time, part-time, contract and summer jobs or internships. Approximately 60 local, provincial and national business representatives set up exhibits in the gym.

"There's a lot of information here that students don't get online," said Thomas Mclean, a second-year Court and Tribunal Agent student. He attended the fair to search for career opportunities after graduation this summer. "Students (at the job fair) can be steered into the direction they need to be headed in," said Mclean.

Recruiters provided pamphlets and booklets with company information, employment opportunities and even job search advice. Business representatives were also available to talk with students one-on-one.

"It's been a very good turnout and we're not just seeing one type of student," said Catherine Scoleri-Khan, a staffing manager from OfficeTeam. The specialized administrative staffing company has been recruiting talented students and graduates at the job fair for eight years.

Stationed a few booths away, representatives from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police complimented Hired Career Services on the outstanding student response as well.

"We're here to advise students the RCMP is hiring and any education they bring can be used within the force," said Constable David Williams, an RCMP recruiter.

Other employers on hand were Goodlife Fitness, Hubbell Canada, Ontario Power Generation, Bell Technical Solutions and Durham Mental Health Services. There were employers representing the areas of study offered by every Durham College school, ranging from business, to information technology, to skilled trades, health and community services.

Durham College's high-quality programs are continually shaped by market needs and delivered by exceptional teachers with real-world experience. That means graduates have the market-ready skills to obtain great careers and make a difference in the world.
