From March 4 to 14 Durham College will take part in the global celebration of women's talents, achievements and contributions to society.

They can be seen conducting lab experiments, scribbling notes in class or presenting ideas in meetings. Some choose to contribute behind the scenes, while others are at the forefront of Durham College's growing reputation for being the premier college in Canada for career-focused students who will succeed in a challenging, supportive and inclusive learning environment. Many influential women greatly impact the lives of others in the campus community.

During International Women's Week, from March 4 to 14, the Student Association and Campus Women's Centre will host a variety of events to celebrate.

"Women should be recognized for their strengths and accomplishments and we don't do it enough," said Allison Hector-Alexander, the women's centre co-ordinator.

During the 10-day celebration, events such as The Vagina Monologues, campus movie night, artist social and Sisters in Conversation will focus on women's talents and achievements from the past to present day. Although some of the activities are solely for women, men are encouraged to attend the monologues and movie night.

The Vagina Monologues benefit production takes place on March 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. The general public is welcome. All proceeds from the production will be given to the YWCA Adelaide House and the Campus Women's Centre.

"We need to take time to acknowledge that women play a vital role in our society and value them for who they are," said Hector-Alexander.
