It's time to recognize remarkable Durham College graduates by nominating them for the Alumnus of Distinction Award.
The Durham College Alumni Association is calling for nominations for the 2008 Alumnus of Distinction Award as it makes plans to honour extraordinary Durham College graduates.
"We are extremely proud of our 42,000-strong alumni and believe it is important to recognize individuals who have utilized the skills they obtained at Durham College to achieve remarkable career success and contribute to the making of better communities across the country," said Lori Connor, the college's alumni officer. "We encourage anyone who knows an outstanding graduate to nominate him or her for the award and help recognize professional excellence, along with contributions to the community."
The award was established in 1990 by the Alumni Association to recognize outstanding graduates and since its inception there have been 56 recipients. Last October a permanent display of all the pictures and biographies of all the winners was unveiled in the hall outside the Campus Bookstore, in the Gordon Willey building.
The six award categories are Business, Technology, Health Sciences, Creative Arts and Design, Community Services and Recent Graduate. The Durham College Alumni office will receive nominations until April 18 and this year's winners will be honoured at the spring convocation ceremony in June.
Last year's award recipients were Gary Christian, a graduate in 1986 of the Maintenance Techniques - Industrial program and in 1990 of Industrial Mechanic Millwright; John Draper, a 2005 Journalism graduate; Gail Elliott, a 1970 Public Administration graduate; Carolyn Luscombe, a 1995 Entertainment Administration graduate; and Connie Wood, a Registered Nursing graduate in 1976.
