Mr. E is the theme of this year's exhibition in Toronto by Durham College third-year Graphic Design students.
The considerable talents of Durham College Graphic Design students will once again receive high-profile attention through an upcoming exhibition in Toronto.
From Tuesday, April 8 to Thursday, April 17, students from the college's third-year Graphic Design program will showcase their skills and talent at the eighth annual Graphic Design Show at 401 Richmond Street West in Toronto.
"Each year, graduating students have the opportunity to display design projects from their fifth-semester portfolio development course," explained Professor of Graphic Design Reid Anderson. "This year, all of our 45 students will exhibit anywhere from one to eight pieces of their best work."
The show will feature a wide variety of graphic design applications, including packaging mockups, ad campaigns, and direct mail and corporate identity pieces.
Second-year Graphic Design students also play an integral role in the annual student spring show, with responsibility for show setup, an overall theme, and poster, invitation and banner design.
This year's winning theme, Mr. E, was created by second-year student Matthew Bell, and features a visual play on words. The artwork will also run on the Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario's (RGD Ontario) website. RGD Ontario represents more than 3,000 graphic designers, managers, educators and students across Ontario.
Now in its eighth year, the annual exhibition always attracts large numbers of industry professionals, studios, agencies, and representatives from corporate art departments who want to see the up-and-coming talent from Durham College.
"Our annual design show also represents an excellent opportunity for our students to network and make valuable contacts in the graphic design industry. It's our goal to get them working as soon as possible after graduation," Anderson said.
"Students have been hired from contacts they make there, or from followup interest from industry representatives who attend. The exhibition also provides an excellent platform to raise awareness of the benefits of our career-focused program to the rapidly-expanding graphics design industry."
