Students in the Durham College Animation - Digital Production program had a unique opportunity recently to participate in the making of a nationally televised music video in collaboration with Video of the Year Juno winner Christopher Mills.

Geordie Lishman, a professor in the Animation Digital Production program, was at one of his art exhibitions when he was approached by Mills and he seized the opportunity.

The video was produced for the Canadian band The Acorn and has recently aired on MuchMusic. As part of their group term assignment, students were required to contribute one moving 3D animated midway ride to be included in the video.

"This production was special because the students could actually see their work appearing on TV," said Lishman. "It gave students a sense of accomplishment, everyone, including Durham College got a credit on the video."

Lishman said the video has motivated students and provided them with invaluable, hands-on experience, in addition to being recognized with an industry leader such as Mills.

Lishman explained that students were subjected to different thinking about the new tools available in animation because of the advancements in multimedia.

"This was a great learning process," said Lishman, who also contributed largely to the production by showcasing his sculpting and drawing expertise through his crafting of all the costumes, sets and props.
