John Zirnhelt, a professor with the School of Applied Sciences, Apprenticeship, Skilled Trades and Technology delivered a keynote presentation at an international conference held at the University of Annaba in Algeria. The conference was held from May 12 to May 14,

Proving once again that Durham College students learn from the best, Zirnelt's presentation entitled Personnel Qualification - The Impact Of New Non-Destructive Testing, was a valuable addition to the conference since the University of Annaba is in the process of establishing a national certification program in non-destructive testing (NDT).

"Canada has been the leader in this technical field," said Zirnhelt. "It's only natural that we have been asked to share that leadership with other countries."

Zirnhelt, who is a professor with the Mechanical Engineering Technician Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) program at Durham College, is also the chairman of the Canadian Institute for Non-destructive Examination and chaired the first plenary session at the conference.

Durham College programs are designed to meet the changing demands of employers and the workplace. Successful graduates from the NDE program have learned from the latest technology and are trained with the skills required to become non-destructive inspectors.
