Full-time and Part-time Students:
Your student photo ID will serve as your library card. Each academic year, Durham College students must present a current student identification card to register for library privileges. Returning students must have a valid stamp on their card. Cards can be obtained or stamped at Photo ID Services (SW201K).
- Free membership for the current academic year upon presentation of valid photo student ID card
- Limit of 15 regular loan items
- 14 day loan period for most regular loan items
- 2 renewals for most regular loan items
- Limit of 3 reserve loan items
- Privileges are suspended when fines accumulate to $10.00 or more
- Final grades will be withheld until delinquent library accounts are clear
- May borrow from other Ontario Colleges (see Interlibrary Loan )
- Remote access to periodical indexes and databases (requires password authentication)
Continuing Education Students :
Free membership for the current academic year upon presentation of valid photo student ID card (can be purchased for $15.00 from Photo ID Services (SW201K)) or proof of course registration and photo ID.

Free lifetime membership upon presentation of valid Durham College Alumni card (available through the Alumni Office) or other proof of alumni status.

Staff:
Your staff photo ID card will serve as your library card. Staff members must present a current staff identification card for borrowing privileges. Cards can be obtained or stamped at Photo ID Services (SW201K).
- Free membership for duration of employment with Durham College upon presentation of valid photo staff ID card
- Contract staff must renew their membership annually
- Limit of 50 regular loan items
- 30 day loan period for most regular loan items (Faculty may request extended semester loans at the time of checkout. Such loans are subject to recall, after the regular staff loan period of 30 days.)
- 2 renewals for most regular loan items
- Limit of 3 reserve loan items
- May borrow Periodicals for 3 days
- May borrow from other Ontario Colleges ( see Interlibrary Loan)

Research Assistants:
Faculty can request library privileges for staff hired as a Research Assistant with the expectation that the requesting faculty member will take responsibility for all charges incurred on the Research Assistant's card. To obtain a card the Faculty member is required to complete an Application for a Research Assistant Card form and submit the completed form to staff at the Circulation desk in The Library. These cards take 24 hours to issue. The research assistant will be contacted when the card is ready.

Retired Staff:

Community Borrowers:
Any member of the general public is welcome to use library materials (reserve material excluded) in the library, free of charge. To borrow items from the circulating collection (reserve material excluded), adult residents of Durham Region may obtain a Community Borrower card upon presentation of valid photo ID and proof of residency. The cost of membership for community borrowers is $50 per year. The cardholder is responsible for all items borrowed on the card.
