Emergency Alarms Policy

Emergency alarms are located throughout the building. These will be activated in the event of suspected fire or other emergency, and from time to time for emergency evacuation drills.

Exits are clearly marked. Users must evacuate the building immediately by the most expeditious route when the alarms sound. Do not try to use the elevators during an emergency evacuation.

Occupants of the building who depend upon wheelchairs, or are otherwise limited in their mobility, should be assisted to the nearest designated emergency area. Emergency officials at the building exits should be made aware of their location.

Library staff have designated responsibilities in connection with the closing of doors and the enforcement of the requirement to vacate immediately. They too will evacuate the building immediately, carrying out their responsibilities as they exit.

No one may re-enter the building until permission to do so is given by the emergency officials.
