CHAIR - Aileen Fletcher is a graduate of both Trent University (B.Sc in Physics) and the University of Toronto (B.Ed Intermediate/Senior). She has been a teacher for 18 years and has taught a variety of subjects including Physics, Math and Student Leadership. She currently serves as the head of Guidance at Bowmanville High School. Just prior to that, she served as an Instructional Leadership Consultant for the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board in the area of Guidance and Cooperative Education. This involved developing board policies, managing co-operative education transportation budgets and representing the Board in the areas of programming with the Ministry, as well as delivering training regarding new Ministry directives to teaching staff. Aileen was selected to be the Guidance representative for a Provincial Advisory Committee (P.A.C.) providing long term strategic direction for SRB Education Solutions Inc. in the development of the student administrative software, Trillium, for the province. In addition to her work responsibilities, Aileen has volunteered her time for a wide variety of agencies. Most notably she served as an executive member on the Iter Community Council working to support the international bid to bring a nuclear fission research centre to the Durham Region. She also served for seven years as an executive member for a provincial organization for student leadership called the Ontario Peer Helpers Association. Aileen was a director for many of their Ontario wide student leadership conferences. Furthermore, she has been involved in the delivery of an equity and diversity program for youth ages 14-18 discussing issues of racism and ethno-cultural diversity which took place annually at the Ontario Educational Leadership Centre. Aileen is also an active volunteer within her church community currently serving as the chair of the official Board for a two point charge. She resides in Courtice with her husband and two children ages 12 and 8. |

VICE CHAIR - Gerry Warman is the Director of Distribution at General Motors of Canada Limited, Oshawa, Ontario. He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario with a BA in Economics. He is currently a member of the General Motors Marketing Advisory Board, the Franchise Operations Team and the Dealer Communications Team. He offers years of senior business experience in the areas of sales, marketing and customer service. Gerry also sits on the UOIT Board of Governors and serves on the Executive Committee and Audit and Finance Committee for both boards. His strong leadership and teamwork skills, as well as business acumen, have proven to be an asset to both institutions. Gerry has volunteered with local minor sports organization in the past, as well as an active supporter in his church community. Gerry and his wife Carmel have three children. They live in Uxbridge and are supporters of local theatre.

Garry Cubitt is the Chief Administrative Officer for the Region of Durham, reporting to the Regional Council, and working in close collaboration with the Regional Chair. He is responsible for the overall management of the Regional organization, and for ensuring that policy development is completed for presentation to Council, and subsequently its implementation and administration. All of the departments within the Region report directly to the Chief Administrative Officer and he is responsible for ensuring that Council directives are co-ordinated between Departments and any relevant outside agencies. Senior management works closely together as a team and meet regularly under Chairmanship of the Chief Administrative Officer to ensure that the administration of the Region is effective and efficient. A critical responsibility for the Chief Administrative Officer is to ensure that all operations in the organization are conducted within the framework of the values and goals of the Corporation. In addition, the Chief Administrative Officer liaises with other government agencies, provincial and municipal, to provide Regional Council with the necessary comprehensive information they require to develop plans and policies. Garry Cubitt is a graduate of Trent University and the University of Toronto and has worked for the Region of Durham since its formation, becoming Chief Administrative Officer in 1993. He is an active member of his community, serving on several local boards. He is a former Governor of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Along with his family, Mr. Cubitt lives in Oshawa. |

Carlee Fraser is a partner in a family-owned business, Fraser Ford, located in Oshawa, overseeing all sales, growth, customer and community relations with emphasis on team building and group objectives. Carlee is very involved in business and community organization s within the Region of Durham,including membership in the Business Networking Inc. group, and community involvement in groups such as Racing Against Drugs, the CIBC Run for the Cure, Big Sisters and Brothers, the Lung Association, Pull for Kids, the Lakeridge Hospital Foundation and YWCA, to name but a few. Her keen interest in the Durham community through her involvement in numerous charities and events and experience working with the youth of the community, in addition to her acute business acumen, bring a wealth of skill sets to the Board of Governors. |

Dr. Pansy Goodman, as a resident of Durham Region for over 10 years, is actively engaged in enhancing the vibrancy of the community, particularly in the promotion of lifelong learning. She has worked in the healthcare and social services sectors for over 20 years, and has taught research, advanced practice, and education courses at various colleges and universities. Pansy has a PhD in Adult Education; a Master of Education in Community Development and Human Resources Development; a Master of Social Work; a Bachelor of Social Work; and a Master of Public Administration (candidate). As the Academic Liaison and Director of the Research Institute, she oversees Training and Research programs at Lakeridge Health. As a Board Governor, she is committed to excellence in academia. |

Karen Hodgins supports faculty with respect to curriculum issues in her role as curriculum developer in the Centre for Academic Excellence and Innovation at Durham College. She previously taught Sociology and Human Relations for the School of Integrated Studies and the School of Justice. After graduating from Centennial College, Karen spent 16 years in various positions in the food service industry, including time as a Quality Assurance Manager and Product Development Manager. She began teaching at Durham in 1986. She has her undergraduate degree from Trent University and has a Master's degree in Adult Education from Central Michigan University. |

Don Lovisa was named interim president of Durham College on May 16, 2008, bringing to the position a wealth of post-secondary experience accumulated over a distinguished career in education. Lovisa joined Durham College in July 2007 as vice-president, Academic, and immediately provided leadership for a number of academic initiatives focused on quality assurance, academic policy development and academic restructuring. All these initiatives have served to reinforce the strong Durham College foundation, positioning the college for future growth and ensuring it will continue to offer high-quality and unique educational opportunities. Prior to joining Durham College, Lovisa served as dean of the School of Business, Hospitality and Media Arts at Confederation College in Thunder Bay. Among the many other positions he held during his successful 20-year career at Confederation, Lovisa was a trainer, part-time faculty member, business advisor and manager. He was also the dean of the School of Access and Literacy and campus manager at one of its satellite campus locations. In addition, he was successful in a $5.2-million capital campaign for the creation of the Centre of Applied Media Productions (CAMP); developed many new post-secondary programs; developed and implemented a new program and renewal model, along with a curriculum conversion to performance-based learning; a Students First institutional research project resulting in new approaches and investment in prior learning and recognition (PLAR), student assessment and co-operative education; partnerships with Thunder Bay school boards; and worked in the areas of access and literacy, contract and international training and private/public partnerships. Lovisa has worked internationally in Jamaica, the Ukraine and Poland where he consulted and provided training and teaching in the area of globalization, market-driven economic transition, international trade and entrepreneurship and business development. He also has an extensive track record of community involvement, including working with chambers of commerce and school boards. Lovisa has a Master's degree in International Management, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Diploma in Adult Education. |

Doug McKay has been associated for 35 years with McDonald Restaurants, both within the corporate structure and as a franchise. Through this experience, he has gained an expertise in business operations including business start-up, marketing, training, administration, financial accountability and people development. Doug has lived in the City of Pickering for 30 years. While living and working in Durham Region, he has taken a significant interest in the local community and dedicated innumerable hours of volunteer time to the betterment of the Region. |

Michael Newell is an Assistant Crown Attorney in Durham Region, having served in this capacity since 2000. Prior to his appointment to the Crown Attorney's Office, he served as a student at law with Lerner and Associates in Toronto, and Queen's Legal Aid Society as a summer caseworker. His commitment to public service, coupled with his expertise as a litigator, offer a strong focus on detail as well as the broader objectives. Michael is a long-time resident of Whitby and his familiarity with the communities of Durham Region through his community work with the elderly, local youth, United Way and other charitable organizations such as Families and Children Experiencing Aids (FACE AIDS) make him a welcome asset to the Board of Governors. |

Bill Robinson is Senior Vice President, Nuclear Programs & Training of Ontario Power Generation Inc. (OPG). OPG is an Ontario-based electricity generator whose principal business is the generation and sale of electricity in Ontario and to interconnected markets, while operating in a safe, open and environmentally responsible manner. Bill Robinson was appointed to his current position on December 1, 2005. He reports directly to the CNO & Executive Vice President and is responsible for all nuclear training, major program ownership, security, administrative support and document services, and nuclear facilities. Bill Robinson came to Ontario Power Generation in August 1998 as the Maintenance Mentor at Pickering Nuclear Generating Station. In February 1999, Bill Robinson was appointed the role of Assistant Site Vice President, Pickering Nuclear Station with accountabilities for the performance of Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Work Control, Outages, Common Services and Fuel Handling for the 2,160 MWe Pickering 'B' Nuclear Units. Bill Robinson was promoted to the Site Vice President, Pickering 'B' Nuclear in September 1999 and to Senior Vice President, Pickering 'B' Nuclear in January 2002. Bill Robinson was then appointed to the position of Senior Vice President, Pickering 'A' Return to Service Project in October 2002. He provided strategic management and oversight of all activities related to the return to service of two 542 MWe Pickering 'A' Nuclear Units. Prior to his appointment to Ontario Power Generation, Bill Robinson was a resident of Raleigh, North Carolina. Bill Robinson held various positions within the nuclear industry. He worked at Harris Nuclear Plant in New Hill, North Carolina as the Vice President from 1993 to 1998 and General Manager in 1993. From 1992 to 1993, Bill Robinson was Vice President with Trojan Nuclear Plant in Rainier, Oregon and General Manager from 1990 to 1992. In 1983, Bill Robinson began his career in the nuclear industry at the Callaway Nuclear Plant, in Fulton, Missouri holding positions as Compliance Supervisor, Superintendent of Instruments and Controls, and Assistant Plant Manager. |

Nicole Schoep is entering her second year of the GENU program (Business General, UOIT transfer to B. Commerce). In 2006, she graduated from Diamond Institute with a 93% average in Accounting. She is currently working in the Accounting Office at Durham College as a work study student and volunteer on the Student Steering Committee as an Event Captain. She enjoys serving on the different committees as this gives her the chance to experience different roles and responsibilities. Her goals consist of obtaining her Chartered Accountant destination and becoming an auditor. She has always enjoyed accounting and is now in the process of making it her future. She enjoys seeing how businesses are running and holding up financially. Nicole is hoping that through her board experience, she will broaden her knowledge of Durham College and the role the board plays. She enjoys taking on different volunteer positions and working with all kinds of people. She also recently volunteered on the decade committee for Dr. F.J. Donevan C. I., 50th reunion. |

She has a Certified Management Accountant designation and holds a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Toronto and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Mathematics from York University (Glendon College). Mary has held a series of progressive positions with the Finance Department of the Region over the past eighteen years. |

Judy Spring is the Dean of the School of Business, IT & Management. In 1986, she began her career at Durham College as a faculty member teaching law and communications. She currently represents the administrative staff on the Ontario College Administrative Staff Association (OCASA). Judy has extensive board governance experience having served as Chair of the Board of Trustees of Lakeridge Health Corporation, the Oshawa YWCA Durham, and the Robert McLaughlin Gallery. Judy was also a member of the Board of Trustees for the Association of Community Colleges of Canada (ACCC). Judy has been named a YWCA Woman of Distinction and Volunteer of Distinction. She currently serves as a member of the Area Appeal Committee for Legal Aid. Judy has a B.A. in Sociology and an M.A. in Education. |

Darrell Sewell has spent his entire career in the health and human services sector. Currently he holds the position of Joint Vice President of Human Resources for two hospital corporations in east metro - Lakeridge Health and Rouge Valley Health System. Prior to joining Lakeridge Health in 2001 he was provincial Director of Human Resources for Ontario March of Dimes and Director of Human Resources for Scarborough General Hospital. After graduating with a BSc from McMaster in 1987, Darrell attended Durham College and graduated with his General Business diploma in Human Resources Management in 1989 and holds his Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation. He has held a number of positions within the Durham College Alumni Association and supported a numerous fund raising campaigns. Darrell and his wife Angela live in Oshawa with their three daughters and are kept very busy assisting in coaching and managing their teams. |

Fred Upshaw, after graduating from the Durham College Registered Nursing program in 1975, began his career at the Whitby Mental Health Centre in Whitby, Ontario where he worked as a registered nurse. There, he became involved with the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), acting as chief steward to the president of the local union. Upshaw has served as president of OPSEU, which represents 110,000 Ontario public sector workers, vice-president of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) and vice-president of the Ontario Federation of Labour. He was president of the Toronto region of the Jaycees organization and served as its national director of leadership training. He also coached minor sports in Oshawa, Ontario for 20 years. |

Franklin Wu has a Bachelor Degree in Planning from the University of Waterloo and a Master Degree in Organization Management from the University of Phoenix. Franklin is a career civil servant having worked for the Provincial Government, the Region of Durham and The Municipality of Clarington. Over his thirty-five year government works, he has assumed various senior management positions including the Director of Current Operation with the Region of Durham, Assistant General Manager with the Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation, and the Director of Planning with the Town of Newcastle. For the last nine years, he serves as the Chief Administrative Officer with the Municipality of Clarington.Today, Franklin oversees all facets of municipal operations and service delivery for the Municipality of Clarington and provides leadership in the efficient and effective administration of an ever changing and complex municipal organization. Franklin is a strong believer in organization leadership through participative management, coaching and employee engagement. |
