Communication activities

The communication centre supports language development through materials, activities, child teacher interactions, and child child interactions. Equipment used includes flannel boards, puzzles, crayons, bulletin boards, records, puppets, games, books, paper, tapes, and headsets. Children are given the opportunity to:
  • Understand and use language;
  • Expand their vocabulary;
  • Enjoy creative and authentic use of language;
  • Sharpen listening skills;
  • Describe objects, events, and relations;
  • Express feelings;
  • Expand and develop imagination;
  • Build self esteem; and
  • Practice pre-writing and pre-reading skills
