The importance of the young child's gross motor development is fostered through physical activities (for example, movement and dance) at the Centre. Materials to promote the development of gross motor skills include such resources as
- Tricycles;
- Playground equipment;
- Natural resources; and
- Large blocks.
Opportunities to develop fine motor skills include grasping, pushing and pulling, holding, turning, winding, placing, and removing items. Activities to promote fine motor development are part of
- Painting;
- Drawing;
- Molding clay;
- Building;
- Assembling puzzles; and
- Pouring.
Self-help skills in dressing such as using buttons, buckles, zippers, and snaps also develop fine motor skills.
