The staff/child ratio is described below:
- Toddlers - 1 Early Childhood Educator to every 5 children;
- Preschoolers - 1 Early Childhood Educator to every 8 children; and
- Preschoolers (3.8 to 5) - 1 Early Childhood Educator to every 10 children.
The Centre provides students in training in the E.C.E. program at Durham College with the opportunity to interact with staff, children, and families. While completing their training, E.C.E. students augment the staff/child ratios; however, E.C.E. students are not included in the child/staff ratio.
Since children arrive and depart at random and are not active during rest periods, the Centre reduces the staff/child ratio during arrival, departure, and rest times to allow staff members a lunch break. Children are adequately supervised; a decreased staff/child ratio is legislated by the Ministry of Community and Social Services.
