Do not use symbols in written text. Spell out the word instead, except in the case of official department names at Durham College.
For example, Durham College uses the word and instead of an ampersand (&), uses the word per cent instead of %, uses the word number instead of # and uses the word at instead of @ (except when referencing an e-mail address).
Exception: Durham College school names use ampersands.
