POSITION INFORMATION:

Job Title: Financial Analyst - Research
Salary:         Starting rate: $25.81; Four year rate:$29.95
Payband: H
Department:    Finance
Hours:  35 hours per week (1) one hour lunch;  Mon.-Fri. (8 a.m. - 4p.m.) 
Reporting to: Manager, UOIT Finance
Campus Location: Oshawa

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The incumbent will provide finance support to UOIT faculty for research awards.

  • Prepare and analyze internal/external reports, including invoices and claim statements.
  • Liaise with researches, budget officers, Office of Research Services throughout process; provide guidance and clarification regarding guidelines and processes; resolve discrepancies; and attend meetings.
  • Provide support and respond to requests from research community.
  • Assist with quarter end, year-end schedules.
  • Assist in investigating new policy and procedure creation.
  • Other duties as assigned such as assisting the manager with yearly faculty presentations regarding finance office role and support.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Three year degree or diploma in Accounting - being enrolled in CGA, CMA or CA program will be considered an asset.
  2. Minimum three years experience in general accounting and a minimum one year in research administration.
  3. Previous work experience in a post secondary environment would be considered an asset.
  4. A basic knowledge of Microsoft Access and Adobe; advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and the Internet for on-line reporting.
  5. Knowledge of Banner or other large accounting systems an asset.
  6. Well developed analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills in order to identify problems, determine possible solutions and select the appropriate action.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  8. Good planning and organizational skills to establish priorities for themselves and others.  Must be able to adjust priorities and meet deadlines.
  9. Well developed verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical staff.
  10. Well developed interpersonal and leadership skills.
  11. Must be a self-starter and a flexible, team player with a strong commitment to team work.
