POSITION INFORMATION:
Job Title: Financial Analyst
Salary: Starting rate: $23.85; Four year rate: $27.66
Payband: G
Department: Finance
Hours: 40 hours per week (1) one hour lunch; Mon.-Fri. (8 a.m. - 5p.m.)
Reporting to: Manager of Financial Reporting & Planning
Campus Location: Oshawa
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The role of the incumbent is to perform financial planning, financial analysis and prepare internal and external reports for Durham College. Specifically, the incumbent will assist in the preparation of school budgets, aid in the submission of external and internal reports and prepare quarterly and year-end reconciliations and journal entries. The incumbent will adhere to Ministry deadlines and guidelines in submitting all required reports. The incumbent will be a resource person for the external auditors and budget holders throughout the year and will address any issues as required.
Financial Reporting:
- Reconcile operating grants and special purpose funding with the Ministry confirmations to the approved budget
- Reconcile and analyze accounts as required for monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements and reporting requirements (including: deferred revenue, prepaid expenses, and accrued liabilities)
- Assist in the year-end audit and work with the external auditors to ensure a smooth audit process
- Prepare internal reports for quarterly reviews with budget holders
Budget Planning, Preparation and Review:
- Assist with the preparation of the budget package for distribution to budget holders
- Collect and consolidate departmental budgets
- Liaise with budget holders throughout process, provide guidance and clarification to managers and their staff as their individual budgets are prepared
- Prepare documents for input into the financial system from the various budget holders and upload into Banner
- Assist with the maintenance of the electronic budget spreadsheet files in order to support integration, consolidation reporting and analysis of budget data
Budget Tracking and General Ledger Maintenance:
- Enter budget adjustments and journal entries into the Financial system to ensure the proper recording of revenues and expenses
Support to Budget Holders:
- Provide support and respond to requests from budget
- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three year degree or diploma in Finance or Accounting.
- Minimum three years experience in accounting or finance role.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and the Internet for on-line reporting.
- Knowledge of Banner or other large accounting systems an asset.
- Well developed analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills in order to identify problems, determine possible solutions and select the appropriate action.
- Good planning and organizational skills to establish priorities for themselves and others. Must be able to adjust priorities and meet deadlines.
- Well developed verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical staff.
- Well developed interpersonal and communication skills.
