Salary:         Starting rate: $30.25; Four year rate:$35.08

Hours: 35 hours per week (1) one hour lunch; Mon.-Fri. (8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) 
Reporting to: Associate Dean, Health & Community Services

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The incumbent acts as a resource and provides assistance to the professors and students of the School of Health in the Health Learning Resource Centre.  The incumbent facilitates in the learning of students within the School of Health by planning and facilitating the smooth operation of the HLRC which provides for the PSW, PN, BScN, Paramedic & Paramedic Advanced Care and Continuing Education programs.
Collaborates with professors regarding equipment and supplies needed to support learning activities/labs.

  • Collaborates with professors on content and delivery for labs which technologist facilitates in.
  • Acts as a technical resource person regarding equipment, supplies, simulators, and learning resources.
  • Ensures equipment, simulators and supplies are in good working condition and "set up" ready for use prior to scheduled learning activities/labs.
  • Demonstrates paramedic skills and assists in evaluation of students' performance in these skills according to established criteria.
  • Ensures equipment, simulators and supplies are disassembled and maintained in a secure manner following use by professors and students.
  • Responsible for organizing and supervising open practice lab hours.
  • Arranges for maintenance and repair of equipment in the Health Learning Resource Centre.
  • Manages inventory.  Researches new product information through catalogue and internet searches and in obtaining price quotes from sales representatives.  Completes purchase requisitions and places order for supplies and equipment. 
  • Assists work-study students and peer tutors to plan and organize their work.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring and scheduling of work study students.
  • Arranges for work study positions by application through university works and work study.
  • Arranges for and runs summer practice session for returning paramedic students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Two year diploma or equivalent in Paramedic Program.
  2. Maintenance of CPR certification.
  3. Five years of continuous work experience as a Regulated Professional with a broad base of paramedic experience. Working at full scope of practice.
  4. Current Advanced EMCA certification would be an asset.
  5. Demonstrated ability to be clear and concise in verbal communication, including oral presentations and demonstrations to small and large groups. 
  6. Demonstrated ability to provide oral and written feedback. 
  7. Demonstrated critical thinking skills to support decision-making and referral of issues to appropriate internal or external individuals.
  8. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgment and work independently to meet deadlines
  9. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with team members
