Requires a Full-time Power Engineering Professor

Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated individual who shares our commitment to quality and success.  The School of Applied Sciences, Apprenticeship, Skilled Trades & Technology requires a full-time professor capable of teaching any or all of the courses in the Power Engineering program, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.  As well, the successful candidate will possess a well-rounded manufacturing/mechanical background allowing for cross-program teaching.

In addition, the successful candidate would be expected to:

  • Serve an integral role as part of the power engineering team providing support to the program manager in curriculum review and renewal, potential co-op options and advisory committees;
  • Work closely with administrative staff to ensure compliance with various Durham College and program policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  1. At least 5-10 years trade related experience;
  2. In depth knowledge of power plant mechanical, electrical and control equipment systems and operations;
    • Practical work experience in aspects of steam generation including:
    • Comprehension of Electrical Systems
    • Related Trade Calculations
    • Sketching and Blueprint Reading
    • Piping Systems
  3. Hold an Ontario 4th Class Stationary Engineer Certification and/or Steam Fitter Certification or an equivalent vocation;
  4. Knowledge of OSHA, WHMIS and industrial related safety programs;
  5. Familiar with Canadian standards and codes;
  6. A current network of industry contacts combined with the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with related professional organizations;
  7. Two or more years teaching experience at the post-secondary level preferred with an understanding of adult educational principles and teaching methodology.  An understanding of the Community College system in Ontario would be an asset;
  8. Must be an independent worker who demonstrates initiative but also works well in a team environment.  Must have excellent customer service skills and good administrative and communication skills.

Those candidates selected for an interview will be required to provide a 20-minute demonstration of teaching skills via a laptop presentation (a laptop will be provided if required).  Details will be provided when interviews are scheduled.
