Fitness & Health Promotion program

Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated individual who shares our commitment to quality and success.  The School of Health & Community Services requires a full-time professor to teach some of the following courses in the Fitness & Health Promotion program, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.:
 
Advanced Exercise Leadership
Advanced Personal Training Techniques
Anatomy & Physiology I and II
Communications for Fitness and Health
Counselling Techniques
Fitness Assessment and Prescription I and II
Leadership and Motivation
Marketing and Entrepreneurship
Nutrition I and II
Personal Training and Programming
Prevention and Treatment of Injuries
Introduction to Psychology
Research Techniques and Applications

In addition, the successful candidate would be expected to:

  • Serve an integral role as part of the coordinating academic team responsible for all aspects of the Fitness & Health Promotion program  
  • Participate in field placement development and agency recruitment 
  • Work closely with administrative staff to ensure compliance with various Durham College and program policies and procedures

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  1. Must hold an appropriate undergraduate degree or diploma.
  2. To ensure students meet industry standards to obtain certification the successful candidate must hold certification with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology CSEP - CEP (Certified exercise Physiologist) - course conductor and examiner.
  3. Evidence of a strong business background with fitness organizations.
  4. Two or more years teaching experience at the post-secondary level preferred with an understanding of adult educational principles and teaching methodology.  An understanding of the Community College system in Ontario would be an asset.
  5. Must be an independent worker who demonstrates initiative but also works well in a team environment.  Must have excellent customer service, administrative, and communication skills.

Those candidates selected for an interview will be required to provide a 20-minute demonstration of teaching skills via a laptop presentation (a laptop will be provided if required).  Details will be provided when interviews are scheduled.
