Communications Specialist, Human Resources Internal Communications
Salary Range:  $50,330 - 56,000

As a member of Durham College's Human Resources team, the Communications Specialist is responsible for implementing strategies that enhance employee communications at Durham College. The incumbent will contribute and edit content for Durham College communications initiatives, conduct research and evaluation, maintain regular internal communication vehicles, consult with areas of the business on communications plans and provide support to the Manager.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support a multi-platformed communications strategy to meet the diverse needs of the community.
  • Provide writing and editing support for a variety of internal communications content.
  • Assist in the planning, development and timely and accurate distribution of internal communications materials and provides support as required for special internal communications projects.
  • Act as central point of contact for all internal communication-related inquiries.
  • Act as office manager for the Internal Communications office.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a degree or diploma in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field along with two to five years experience that demonstrates increasing responsibility within a communications or public relations role in a fast-paced environment.

Additional qualifications include: superior oral and written communication skills; strong project management and communication planning skills; the ability to prioritize and accomplish various projects and assignments simultaneously; a self-starter who can thrive independently as well as excel in a team environment.
The successful incumbent will participate in the Human Resources meetings and as such will be privy to confidential material. Experience working in a similar setting will be considered an asset.

Experience managing website content and a well-developed understanding of web usability and social media will be considered an asset. He or she will possess an appetite for learning, strong writing, editing and proofreading skills with the ability to change tone, style and messaging to suit audience needs. The incumbent will have an excellent proficiency of Microsoft Office applications particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
