Executive Director
OntarioLearn Board of Directors
Reporting to the OntarioLearn Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the leadership, and management of the Ontario Learn consortium in accordance with the strategic direction outlined by the board.
The Executive Director operates within a framework of policies and goals which have been approved by the board. The Executive Director is responsible for:
- Supporting the board by contributing to meetings, presenting reports and project updates and implementing the policies of the board.
- Strategic planning and leadership through the implementation of the OL strategic plan, advocating on behalf of the board, identifying trends, and fostering teamwork.
- Managing communications and information by establishing communication protocols, serving as liaison to the board and representing OLs interests externally.
- Securing, managing and planning projects as they relate to OL/Distance Education
- Providing support to consortium members.
Responsibilities and Duties
Strategic Planning and Leadership
- Assist the OntarioLearn Board and staff in the development and presentation of the vision, strategic plan and values of the organization.
- Act as an OntarioLearn/Distance Education advocate with staff, partners, funders and the public.
Identify regional and provincial trends and issues, as well as internal concerns that affect OntarioLearn.
- Work with the board to develop and articulate short-term and long-term plans.
- Recommend policies and related procedures that support organizational values and objectives of OntarioLearn and implement effectively all policies and program directions adopted by the board.
- Represent OntarioLearn and participate in provincial and regional meetings as required.
- Ensure coordinated planning and ongoing monitoring and evaluation of initiatives.
- Identify and evaluate emerging trends in the use of technology in education.
- Foster effective teamwork between the Board and the Executive Director and between the Executive Director and the staff.
Accountability and Support to the Board
- Prepare for and attend regular meetings of the board.
- Present reports and make recommendations to address identified issues.
- Advise on project status and other activities that contribute to OntarioLearn's mandate.
- Ensure that board and committee members are promptly informed of all pertinent matters.
Information Management and Communication
- Establish and maintain effective communication among OntarioLearn members and other key groups or individuals.
- Serve as the liaison to the board of directors and task teams to ensure that issues and concerns are effectively communicated in a timely manner.
- Keep the board of directors and the executive committee apprised of issues requiring their attention and involvement.
- Represent OntarioLearn's interests and mandate in all communication and working relationships with other agencies, community organizations, technical service providers and governments.
- Provide leadership to maximize the involvement of consortium members.
Project Planning and Management
- Liaise with the board of directors, members, team groups and potential funders to identify suitable opportunities for organizational planning or project development.
- Implement granted projects, organizational priorities and planning functions.
- Manage and report on all aspects of organizational, planning and project management.
- Develop project proposals according to various funding guidelines.
Provide program support to Consortium Members.
- Respond to colleges' requests for resources and information.
- Attend meetings representing the OntarioLearn consortium.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a post-secondary under-graduate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. He/she will demonstrate ongoing participation in educational pursuits or professional development. The Executive Director will build and maintain positive working relationships and possess exceptional decision making skills, experience in guiding an organization strategically, proven management skills and sound advocacy skills. He/she will be proficient in current software programs and use of the internet. As well, excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and analytical skills are necessary. Experience in the development of curriculum for e-learning and the delivery of web based learning is an asset. Knowledge of the college system and distance delivery is important and the ability to work independently and as part of a team is critical. He/she will be flexible, willing to take on new responsibilities, and comfortable in a supervisory role. The incumbent will work evening hours as required, maintain a valid driver's licence, and have regular access to transportation.
This is a newly created position which is expected to require 24 hours per week. Compensation will be based accordingly.
