Conflict of Interest

Should a faculty member find that a student enrolled in his/her subject is a friend, relative, or associate, a conflict of interest may arise. In the interest of avoiding the appearance of preferential treatment, the faculty member should discuss this situation with the appropriate program dean immediately. The dean and faculty member will determine which actions are necessary to prevent a conflict of interest.

Faculty should also be aware of Article 11.06 of the Academic Employees Collective Agreement which indicates that "During the period of assigned workload, teachers shall not take any employment, consulting or teaching activity outside the College except with the prior written consent of the supervisor. The consent of the supervisor shall not be unreasonably withheld."
