There are many publishers wanting you to purchase books from their company. Once a year (usually in March) a Book Fair is held in the gym where you can look at what some of the publishers have to offer. At other times throughout the year, sales representatives will be knocking on your door telling you about the texts related to your subject.
Accessibility is very important on our campus. When you are deciding which text books or materials to use in your courses, please ask the publisher if these materials are available in an alternate format. Though we want you to choose the best materials to support your course, there are times when a choice has to be made between various textbooks that are similar. We ask that you choose the one that is also available in an alternate format. In doing so, you reduce the amount of time a student, who may already be disadvantaged, has to wait for this book to be transferred to an audio or digital format. Even the process of asking the publishers if the textbooks are available in an alternate format will communicate the message to them that accessibility is an important issue at Durham College.
