The mission of the Centre for Academic Excellence and Innovation is to help the faculty of Durham College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology become better teaching professionals. The Centre is responsible for professional development for faculty and provides leadership in a campus-wide dialogue about curriculum, teaching, learning, and technology.
The Innovation Centre offers many services including curriculum development, instructional design, and one-on-one help in learning to use new technology or to improve teaching techniques. The Centre also encourages small groups to meet for learning or technology related discussions and forums, or to hold informal training sessions. The Centre also hosts course-related web pages for faculty and offers workshops and demonstrations throughout the year on a variety of IT and pedagogical topics. Acting as the focus for Durham's and UOIT's E-Learning activities, the Centre provides support for the faculty involved and researches new tools and techniques as they become available.
The Centre is also the focus of curriculum related services to support the program life cycle activities related to quality for Durham College. This includes facilitating focus groups, the development of course outlines, and curriculum mapping.
The Innovation Centre is located in SW101of the Gordon Willey Building. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
