Tuition Reimbursement for Dependent Children

A) Dependents Attending Durham College

A full-time employee of Durham College whose dependent child(ren) is approved for admission to a full-time Durham College post-secondary program may apply for reimbursement of the regulated tuition fees paid (less $100). This benefit commences at the start of the first full semester after the date of full-time hire.

B) Dependents Attending UOIT

Dependents of full-time college employees if approved for admission through the normal process may apply for a UOIT scholarship. A dependent may apply to UOIT for post-secondary undergraduate programmes for an annual $1,000.00 scholarship ($500.00 per semester). The maximum life time scholarship is $4,000.00 per dependent.

To qualify for a UOIT scholarship, the dependent must achieve an average of 75% or an equivalent G.P.A. from their most recent set of academic grades and have paid all tuition and other mandatory fees. The scholarship does not apply to dependents who study on a part-time basis.

NOTE: The above benefit programmes cannot be combined to exceed four years. Please see the appropriate policy with respect to the definition of a dependent.

Tuition Reimbursement for Post-Secondary Programming

Full-time staff who successfully complete a university course(s) are eligible to receive a reimbursement of 50% of the tuition fees paid. Employees may request to have the full tuition fees advanced with repayment of the employee portion arranged through payroll deduction. Supervisory approval is required prior to enrolling in the course and each employee is subject to an annual maximum.

For all undergraduate and graduate degrees, 50 per cent of tuition is reimbursed to a maximum of $3,000 per year for all courses leading to an undergraduate, master's or doctoral degree.

UOIT will waive the 50 per cent tuition not covered by Durham College to all Durham College employees registered in a UOIT undergraduate degree program.

Staff Access to Continuing Education Courses

Durham
College recognizes the importance of its most valued resource - its staff. In order to provide and encourage personal and professional development of Durham College employees and their families, a reduced rate is available for courses offered through Continuing Education for current full-time and part-time staff. The reduced rates are known as "Campus Colleague".

  • Credit courses - no limit to the number an employee can take per semester
  • General Interest courses - only two allowed per semester

Exceptions: Only one or two seats are held in any course for a "Campus Colleague", so be sure to register early for a course. There are also courses in which no seats are available except at the published cost.

This certainly is a great motivator for you and your family to continue your life long learning!
