Chiropractic assesses disorders related to the spine, nervous system and joints of the extremities. The purpose is to diagnose and treat mechanical disorders of the spine and musculoskeletal system with the intention of affecting the nervous system and improving health . Chiropractic manipulation is a drug-free, non-invasive manual procedure.
The primary goal of chiropractic manipulation, also referred to as an adjustment, is to treat areas of decreased movement in the joints of the spine which can create a reaction in surrounding tissues(ligaments, muscles and nerves) resulting in pain, dysfunction and muscular spasm. Chiropractors are also trained to prescribe therapeutic exercise and rehab programs.
What to expect on your first visit?
Your first visit will typically take approximately 30 minutes during which time your Chiropractor will ask you a number of questions related to your condition as well as previous episodes and your general health history. They will then perform some orthopaedic tests to try and isolate the exact cause of your pain. Once he or she establishes a diagnosis they will then begin treatment if they feel you'll benefit from Chiropractic care.
