Impact of International Activities at
Durham
College
Providing opportunities for international exposure for students, faculty and administration at
Durham
College is important for many reasons.
Here are just a few examples why the college is committed to the international process to benefit our institution.
For Students
- Increases exposure to other cultures, resulting in a better understanding of the world we live in.
- Assists the student in gaining a better understanding of the global marketplace, creating additional market-oriented skills, otherwise not available through only domestic exposure.
- Provides the student with unique career-oriented skills through their understanding of other cultures and networks of contacts globally.
For Faculty
- Provides opportunities for instruction in a new and unique setting which would not be available in a Canadian setting.
- Exposes Canadian faculty to their peers in other cultures, opening new opportunities for cross-cultural collaboration, directly impacting learning opportunities for faculty, as well as students.
- Creates unique opportunities for professional development that would not exist without extensive international networks, resulting in exposure to new cultures and techniques.
For Administration
- Provides opportunities to gain exposure to new techniques in academic management, the result of which could lead to efficiencies in the Canadian context of learning.
- Enables Administrators to undertake unique forms of professional development, leading to a better understanding of other cultures, especially emerging markets, and preparing the institution to continually be on the cutting-edge of preparing our students for their careers.
- Increases exposure to other cultures, which is important as
Canada continues to be a focal point for immigration and our institution continues to become more exposed to new Canadians studying in Durham Region.
For the Institution
- Increases the diversity of the campus through new international students, faculty who have been exposed to other cultures, domestic students who experience unique international internships, and administrators who learn new techniques based off of exposure to their peers in other countries.
- Is a source of revenue for the campus, which is critical at a time of continued growth for the college, especially through opening new market opportunities for cross-cultural collaboration.
- Ensures
Durham
College is at the forefront in terms of exposure to cutting edge techniques, new opportunities, and networks of influence, resulting in a learning experience in
Ontario that is truly unique, and prepares our students for their lives in a global environment.
