May 2009 - Start of summer

You did it; you completed your first year of college. This month, you may be doing any number of the following:

  • returning home after being away for the year and reuniting with friends and family and adjusting to being back home;
  • staying in the Durham Region and living on your own;
  • working or looking for a summer job;
  • traveling, relaxing;or
  • taking an additional course.

If you are returning home after being away, it is important to discuss or clarify expectations and responsibilities with your family. This can help speed up the adjustment period as families get used to living together again.

If you have decided to stay in the area, be sure to check out some of the local events taking place in the area. You may also want to take advantage of the air conditioned Campus Athletic Centre which will remain open throughout the summer months.

If you are still looking for a summer job, be sure to visit the Hired Career Services portal for job postings. You may also want to visit the Service Canada Centre for Youth located at 78 Richmond Street West in Oshawa.
