Durham College offers first-year students the opportunity to be matched to a staff person who will be there to help them through the transition to college.
Feedback collected from last year's participants showed that mentors "gained a better understanding of the student experience" and students found that it "helped them open up to talking to new people, made them feel more at ease..."
Students interested in the program will be paired with a mentor who will:
- Offer support to students throughout the first year of college;
- Assist students with developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
- Encourage student engagement in campus activities;
- Help students connect with campus services; and
- Assist students in having a positive college experience.
