A Step-By-Step Guide to Applying to the Critical Care Nursing Graduate Certificate program
Please find detailed below a guide to completing the application process through OCAS.

- Go to the OCAS website at: www.ontariocolleges.ca.
- Click on "Apply to college" and then click on "Apply online".
- Click on "LOG IN". As a new applicant, you will first have to create a user account with OCAS. Once this step has been completed, you will use this account to view your application status and later on, confirm your offer of admission to the Critical Care program. To begin the process, click on "Create User Account" and you will be shown a page outlining the next few steps in the application process.

- OCAS will now show you a page outlining the three steps in the application process.
Review this information and then click on "Continue" to set up your OCAS account.
- OCAS will ask you to enter your general account information - including a username and password. Once you have completed all of the required information, click on "Submit".
- OCAS will then send you a message confirming the creation of your account. You are now ready to apply to the Critical Care program. Click on "Apply to College" to continue.
- OCAS will now ask you to log in using your new username and password.
- OCAS will display an "Account Details" screen. Click on "Apply to College" to continue.
- You must now indicate the application cycle you are applying to. Click on "For program(s) with start dates between August 2007 and July 2008".
- OCAS will now present a Privacy Statement explains how your application data will be used.
Check the "signature" box and then click the "I Accept" button indicating that you agree to the conditions of this policy.
- OCAS will now display a confirmation screen showing you your OCAS number and account number.
- OCAS will ask you to complete the "All About Me" section of the application.
- Click on the button that best describes your educational background or status.
- From the drop-down list specified, indicate the city or town where you went to high school.
You will then be asked to specify the actual high school you attended from a drop-down list.
Please make sure that when you are asked to provide an OEN (Ontario Education Number), you enter a value of all zeroes (i.e. nine zeroes in the format: 000-000-000).
Durham College will require a copy of your college or university transcript to verify your academic status. Please click on the box next to which transcript you will be providing.
Click on the "Save" button and your data will be saved. Then click on "Continue to Program Choices".
- OCAS will now ask you to select your program choice. Click on "Choice 1".
- OCAS will now ask you to specify the college and the program you are applying to.
Enter "Durham" in the "Choose a College" field and the word "CRITICAL" to do a search by program title.
- Only one search result will be displayed back to you. Click the button next to "Critical Care Nursing" and all relevant program information will be displayed back to you.
PLEASE NOTE that there is a place for you to indicate whether you will be taking this course "full-time" or "part-time". Always enter "full-time" in this field.
Click on the "Save" button and your program choice will be stored and then click on the "Continue" button to go to the next step.
- OCAS will then ask you to enter the details of the post-secondary institution that you attended and graduated from. Complete this information and then click on the "Submit" button.
- Your application is now complete and you will now request your transcript be sent electronically to Durham College. Click on the "College Transcript" or "University Transcript" button, Depending on where you graduated.
- Enter the details of your transcript request.
Notes:
- You will need to provide OCAS with your student number at the institution you graduated from. If you do not remember this information, please contact the college or university and have them provide it to you.
- In order to ensure that your application is processed as quickly as possible,
Make sure that you indicate that you want your transcript sent NOW.
- OCAS will show you a screen confirming your transcript request details. If all of this information is correct, click on the "Submit" button.
- This is the final step in the process - the payment of your application and transcript fees.
You will be shown a summary of these charges. Click on the "Pay My Fees" button to continue.
- We strongly recommend payment by credit card. Select the card of your choice and you will be asked to provide your credit card details. Once completed, click on the "Continue" button. When your payment has been verified, you will receive a confirmation screen. Click on the "Done" button.
Congratulations! You have completed the application process!
Next Steps:
- Your application and transcript will be sent to Durham College electronically.
- Once we receive this information, you will be sent an e-notification that it has arrived.
- Your application and transcript will be reviewed by the Durham College Admissions Department.
- If your application is completed and your transcript indicates you are qualified, we will send you an electronic Offer of Admission to the Critical Care Nursing E-Learning Graduate Certificate program. This offer will include the next steps in the process to get you registered into your courses.
