Program details

The Critical Care Nursing Graduate Certificate Program at Durham College is composed of eight courses. The model has three primary components including e-learning courses, simulation education and hands- on preceptored experience in a critical care unit (courses are listed below).

Course advanced standing, challenge or transfer of credit will be considered on an individual basis. Please contact the program coordinator at 905.721.2000 ext 2195 or  sandra.goldsworthy@dc-uoit.ca for more information.  Sim lab is mandatory for everyone and no challenges will be granted.

All registered nurses in Ontario in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario are eligible to apply to this advanced certificate program. Upon successful completion of the critical care course requirements, a Level 2 or Level 3 Critical Care Certificate will be awarded.

In order to earn the Program certificate credit the following eight courses must be completed successfully:

  • CCIN 1500 - Introduction to e-learning;
  • CCFO 1500 - Foundations: Critical Care;
  • CCHA 2500 - Advanced Health Assessment;
  • CCCC 1501 - Management of the Critically Ill Patient: Cardiac;
  • CCRN 1502 - Management of the Critically Ill Patient: Respiratory/Neuro;
  • CCRE 1503 - Management of the Critically Ill Patient: GI/Renal/Endocrine;
  • CCSI 2501 - Critical Care Simulations; and
  • CCPR 2502 - Critical Care Practicum.

All six theoretical courses must be completed prior to the sim lab and practicum.
