The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), Ontario's first laptop university, is,

Students who have the academic qualifications to pursue a university education, but do not meet the English language requirement can enter university directly after successful completion of the University Preparation Programme (Level 9 and Level 10 of the EAP Programme). There are three entry points for the

University Preparation Programme:

  • September
  • January
  • May

*TOEFL Equivalence

College Preparation is equal to 213 on the Computer Based Test and 79 on the Internet Based Test with subscores of not less than 19.

University Preparation is equal to 220 on the Computer Based Test and 83 on the Internet Based Test with subscores of not less than Speaking 19, Listening, Reading and Writing 20.

Our EAP Programme will provide you with:

  • an initial assessment to determine readiness for the University Preparation Programme
  • an intensive 16 week programme divided into three courses of study:
    • Academic Communications
    • Academic Research
    • Academic Writing
  • the opportunity to audit a UOIT course as part of the University Preparation Programme
  • guidance and support while auditing a UOIT course
  • a competitive edge that will help you succeed in an English speaking university environment

You will develop skills and confidence in:

  • using Web-Based Technology to enhance learning
  • developing academic research techniques
  • reading a variety of university level texts
  • writing academic essays, reports and case studies
  • understanding North American academic policies and expectations
  • listening to lectures and taking well-organized, comprehensive notes
  • making persuasive speeches and presentations
  • communicating effectively in all situations
