Jeanie's Student Experience

EAP Graduate Jeannie (Cui, Hangtao)

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the English for Academic Purposes Programme at Durham College.   I would like to tell about my experiences here.   I want you to know that I was a student in the EAP programme and I will remember that time as a positive experience all of my life. First you should know that Durham College always welcomes new students very warmly. The people in the college can help you to improve your English and learn about how to adjust to the North American academic environment.

Here, the students will get fair treatment and when new students arrive the teachers will put them in to the class which is the right level for their English skills. All of the teachers have excellent knowledge and a lot of experience. It is important to know that the teachers are full time teachers and really get to know their students well.   The teachers here cherish their jobs. They will do their best to help you overcome your problems with English. They will support you because they understand that it is difficult to come to a foreign country.   If you have a problem or a question, just talk to them. I know they will help you.

My teachers were my friends too!

Now I am a student in Durham College and I am studying a Business programme.   I feel happy that I am doing well in my course. I know that this is because of the study skills and strategies that I learned in my English classes. I know how to do accurate research, read well and understand my text books, take good notes, write good essays, and I am confident I can work well with my classmates.   In Canadian schools, students often work in groups and it is very important to be able to understand what people say and also to be able to speak to them clearly. It is not always easy, and I am still learning!

I have many happy memories of the trips we took to see some interesting and beautiful places in Ontario. Also, I have made some really good new friends from other countries. I think that is exciting.

So now you are thinking of coming to Canada to learn some new skills and enjoy some beautiful fresh air and scenery. You want to communicate with some new people and be open to some new ideas and views on the world. Have you decided that you need to develop your personal abilities so that you can have some wonderful opportunities in your future?

Now you are talking to your friends and classmates and to your parents and doing online research to find the school that is best for you. I would like to suggest that you choose Durham College.

Good Luck,

Jeanie
