Airport pickup
For International students that might feel uncomfortable or confused about getting transportation when they first arrive in Toronto, Durham College offers them the opportunity to have a college representative pick them up and drive them to their destination. A fee of $100 is associated with this service.
Orientation session
The International Department of Durham College offers an orientation session for newly arrived international students in order to help them get started in their new college careers. Our orientation will introduce the students to the college and the community and cover some of the new and different ways of life an international student will come across. The orientation is designed to help the students with all the new things they will have to know in their new life as a student in Canada. It will also be an opportunity to meet all the other new international students.
Partnership program
For any International student that feels uncomfortable or lonely in their new surroundings, Durham College offers them a "friend" or "buddy" that can show them around the college and city, and teach them about life in Canada. We are confident that this "partnership" will help International students more easily handle things such as riding buses, buying food and most importantly, making new friends.
Prayer room
In order to accommodate students of all religious backgrounds, Durham College has a prayer room located on campus. We believe that all students should be able to express their different faiths, and have a place to practice them in a quiet and comfortable environment. Please note that students will have to bring their own supplies for any ceremonies and/or rites performed within the prayer room. Absolutely no fires are permitted within the room unless approved by the proper authorities.
Employment
Canadian Immigration laws prevent International Students from working outside of Durham College. However, Durham College does offer some on-campus work for International Students. It should be noted that students should not rely on their campus jobs to subsidize their living conditions. These jobs are only there in order to give students work experience and some extra spending money.
