Pre-Departure Info

What you should bring with you from home:

Depending on when you arrive in Canada, some stores may not be open for a couple of days. You should bring some food with you. Do not bring FRESH FRUIT because it will be taken away by airport officials.

Some examples of safe items to bring include:

• Crackers, Cookies
• Tea
• Bottled water or juice
• Instant noodles
• Chocolate bars or Energy bars
• Snacks - dried fruit, raisins, apricots, pre-packaged
• Food that doesn't need to be cooked

You will want to bring a few items with you to remind you of home.

Some suggestions include:

• Pictures of family and friends from home
• A favourite item or something to remind you of home

Items you may want to purchase in Canada:

• Electric Toaster
• Electric Wok or Frying Pan
• Electric Kettle
• Hair Dryer
• Can Opener
• Pots for cooking

During your first week in residence in Oshawa you should expect to spend approximately $200 for supplies that you will need (food, sheets, shampoo etc.)

If you are in the Homestay program you may not need to buy all of these items. You should bring some food with you.

Accommodations

Please remember - We DO NOT book your accommodations for you. You must reserve your accommodations yourself.

There are several housing options available to you. If you do not have family or friends to stay with we suggest you reserve a room at the College Residence or with a Homestay family.

You must do this as soon as possible so that you will be guaranteed a room.

You MUST book approximately 3 months before the start of school or the room availability will be low due to the increase in applications for the new semester.

Airport Pickup

If you would like someone to pick you up from the Toronto Pearson International Airport, please let us know. The cost for airport pickup is $100.00. Please allow 2 weeks to arrange pickup.

You must book the airport pickup with Sarah Edwards in the International Office.
