The Alumni office selects these individuals based on the updates we receive. To be considered for this distinction, alumni can be nominated by faculty, staff, friends, or self referral.
Alumnus of the Month
John Philpott
Computer Science Technology 2002
John resides in Whitby, Ontario with his fiancée Xiaoyan (Judy). John and Judy are to be married Sunday October 28, 2006. John works in the IT field as a System Support Specialist. Previously his job involved technical support, though nowadays his job mainly consists of purchasing and asset management, as he is the Lead IT Purchasing Contact for the Region of Durham with its computer purchasing vendors. John works for the Regional Municipality of Durham in its CIS (Corporate Information Services) department. John has been employed there for 4 years starting there just two weeks out of college. John was nominated along with his migration team for the 2005 Service Award of Excellence at the Region of Durham.
Although John is busy with work and planning his wedding now, he used to be involved in his CUPE Union and ran their website. He was also a member of the Durham College Alumni Board of Directors.
John's favourite past times include playing squash, golf, hockey and writting. Currently John is working on a couple of ideas for a novel. Also John enjoys traveling, he recently returned from China, where he visited Beijin and Xian. The picture above is John on the Great Wall of China.
