Durham College graphic design students make impression with spring show at Toronto's Design Exchange

March 18, 2004

OSHAWA, Ont. - Soon-to-graduate students in the Graphic Design program at Durham College will showcase their creative talent in an exhibit March 23 to April 4 at the Design Exchange, 234 Bay Street, Toronto. The Design Exchange is Canada's leading design museum and centre for design research and education.

The student show, called "ab - norm - al," will profile imaginative and sometimes offbeat solutions to design challenges by Durham's class of 2004.

This is the third annual exhibition of work created by the graphic design students of Durham College, part of the college's School of Design. Studies in Durham's Graphic Design program involve a sequence of studio-based assignments over the its three-year duration.

The Durham College School of Design was established to foster the development of exploratory design solutions that are meaningful and appropriate for today. Durham's Graphic Design program acknowledges that the design of visual communications must be informed by the disciplines of design, architecture and art. This results in an awareness of the historical development of design ideas, current design issues and the impact of changing cultures and new technologies.

Each year, design students present their best portfolio work at the Design Exchange. Previous shows were Boots and Shoes (2002) and Mania (2001). See this year's show Web site at dca.durhamc.on.ca/faculty/ellis.
