Oshawa, Ont. - Following his hard work and determination, Ryan Szewerda is playing into the final rounds of the Investors Group Ontario Amateur Championship being held at the Donalda Club in Toronto.
Szewerda is currently tied for 19th place, with scores of 72, 76 and 71, in a field of 158 players. He has completed his third round.
But it wasn't an easy road to the tournament. The Seagrave, Ontario native first had to qualify at the Peterborough Golf and Country Club, which he did with a score of 73.
"I was excited when I qualified, but I knew I had a lot of work ahead of me in order to make the cut, which was my ultimate goal," said Szewerda. "I did that. Now I am going to go out in rounds three and four and have fun-enjoy the experience of playing in an Ontario amateur."
Members of the Durham College golf program couldn't be happier for his achievements.
"This is a big boost for our golf program, especially after a tough event at the RCGA Canadian College/University National Golf Championship a few weeks ago at the Wyldewood Golf and Country Club," said head coach Mike Duggan.
A member of the Durham College Men's Golf Team, Szewerda is also enrolled in the Professional Golf Management Program - Business Administration. This curriculum prepares students to pursue a wide range of golf careers, from club manager to golf professional, by exposing them to all areas of golf management including marketing, promotions, retailing, and teaching and conducting clinics.
