Durham
College will be celebrating the dedication, determination and success of almost 290 graduates at its fall convocation ceremonies on Thursday, October 21.
Diplomas and certificates will be presented in the Durham College gymnasium, and will highlight the achievements of students in the programs of: Public Relations, Communicative Disorders Assistant, Practical Nursing, General Arts & Science, Office Administration, Mechanical Engineering Technician--Non-Destructive Evaluation, Personal Support Worker, and Addictions Counsellor.
Students are guaranteed to be inspired by guest speaker Andrew Popko, a 1978 Public Relations graduate who has built his career on creating "firsts" for Aboriginal groups in the world of business. He is currently specializing in Aboriginal issues at the Privy Council Office in
Ottawa, and will return to EnCana, one of the world's leading independent oil and gas companies, in August 2005 as vice-president of Aboriginal Relations. He helped establish training and business development programs with about 70 Aboriginal groups in western
Canada. Popko has received numerous awards, and in 2003 he was appointed Honorary Chief of Heart Lake First Nation, and given a lifetime achievement award from the Tribal Chiefs Institute of Treaty 6.
