OSHAWA, Ont. - Two students in the Collaborative Nursing program at
Somer Verhoeven of Oshawa and Lisa-Marie Forcier of Courtice will both receive a $500 scholarship based on five criteria: enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program; a minimum average of 70 per cent; leadership contributions to the local community; a demonstrated passion for nursing; and the submission of a personal letter highlighting community and university activities related to the nursing field.
"Our hope is that this award will inspire people and graduates to pursue a career in nursing," said Esther Filer, Community and Public Relations co-ordinator with Durham Access to Care.
The Durham Access to Care Foundation is a provincially incorporated and federally registered charity. One of the primary goals of this group is to promote education and awareness among health care providers. Through their Annual Community Health Forum, they have provided an opportunity for Durham Region health care partners to come together for education and information sharing.
Both Somer and Lisa-Marie will be presented with their awards at the Annual Community Health Forum to be held at 11:45 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Oshawa, located at 1011 Bloor Street East.
