Students showcase art in Durham Region

November 10, 2004

OSHAWA, Ont. - Interested in viewing artworks from new local artists? Throughout the month of November, students of the Foundations in Art & Design program at Durham College will have their work displayed in two local exhibitions.

Beginning on November 12, businesses throughout downtown Oshawa will generously donate space to highlight student artwork in their stores. A special reception hosted by Oshawa's Downtown Board of Management manager, Vivian Sled will be held in celebration of the event at 14 Simcoe Street South from 4 to 6 p.m.

In addition, throughout the month of November, the Clarington Art Gallery will be featuring acrylic paintings. The Clarington Gallery is located at the Municipal Administrative Centre at 40 Temperance Street in Bowmanville.

The Foundations in Art & Design program allows students to work with a number of artists, providing an introduction to several studio practices. The aim of the program is to provide a blend of art and design courses, to encourage basic exploration and experimentation with the materials and ideas found in contemporary art and design, and to provide students with information on career options in visual art.
