Oshawa, Ont. - Durham College's Continuous Learning department has been awarded a Motorcycle Award of Excellence (Max) for its motorcycle training programs.
The annual awards, which are billed as the "Oscars" of the motorcycle industry, recognize excellence in more than 45 categories including international competition, events and sponsorship.
"We were very honoured to receive the award for the rider training category, especially since industry organizations were involved in selecting winners," said Catherine Drea, dean of continuous learning at Durham College. "Our programs place a lot of emphasis on safety, and the award recognizes the high calibre of our instructors as well as the quality of our courses."
Durham College began offering motorcycle training in 1988, and was one of the first Ontario colleges to do so. In 2002, 1,358 students completed one of the college's three motorcycle programs. The programs are offered at the college's Oshawa campus as well as the Canadian Forces Base in Kingston. The Canadian Safety Council has designated Durham College an approved provider of motorcycle training.
