At Durham College's fall convocation ceremony today, an accomplished alumnus addressed the graduates and their guests. About 350 students graduated from the college's schools of Business, Communication Arts, Design, Health, Human Studies, Integrated Studies, Justice Studies, Technology, Apprenticeship and Skilled Trades, as well as Business & Industry Development Services. The ceremony was held in the college's Oshawa campus gymnasium.
Darrell Sewell, a 1989 Business - Human Resources Management graduate, delivered the guest address. Since graduation, Sewell has progressed through a number of positions and responsibilities in hospitals and the health-care field, to his current position as corporate director of human resources at Lakeridge Health Corporation. Sewell earned a Bachelor of Science degree from McMaster University and he is a Certified Human Resources Professional. As well, Sewell is chair of the Ontario March of Dimes Central Region Golf Tournament and a member of Durham College Foundation's advisory committee. His past contributions include serving as president of the Durham College Student Association and, for several years, president of the Durham College Alumni Association.
"I am honoured and delighted to address the fall 2002 graduating class," said Sewell. "As an alumnus, I know that all Durham College graduates can hold their heads high and enjoy Durham's well-earned reputation throughout their careers."
