Students at Durham College's North campus in Uxbridge now have access to some of the latest computer technology and capabilities, thanks to two important technology upgrades.
The college recently installed a high-speed fibre-optic cable link, which enables students to connect to the Internet much faster, upload and download files more quickly, and access additional features such as live video and audio clips. In addition, with the upgrading of all 40 student computers last summer, students are using the latest available technology.
"Everyone is thrilled to have made this major leap in technology," says Jeanette Barrett, dean, school of academic & career preparation. "These latest upgrades will make our programs and facilities even more attractive to students. As well, the new cable link may enable us to reduce some costs."
Durham has had a presence in Uxbridge since 1987. Through its current campus in the Testa professional building, Durham College serves more than 2,500 students each year. Among the programs and services offered are Microsoft Office certification, evening programs in career and general interest subjects, and a free resource centre for the public.
